3 months on…

So it has just gone past the three month stage since I have been home. It’s been a non-stop three months and it now seems a long time since I was away.

The first phone call I got when I landed confirmed I had a work placement lined up. This was great news for my bank balance and I haven’t stopped working since.  I recently returned to my old work and am about to start a new full time contract in Procurement at the end of this month. So things are looking up.

However, this hasn’t really given me much time to reflect on the trip and how it feels to be home so here goes…

Has much changed at home? No, not really. There’s a few new road signs kicking around. Tesco’s is fantastic and I have taken full advantage of how great British supermarkets are. Nice to see people but you’d be surprised how little people or home has changed.

Would I do the trip again? In a heart beat. I will have some of the best memories of my life from my time away. Before I left and talking to people about my trip, it was almost guaranteed that most who hadn’t done a similar trip would say something along the lines of ‘I wish I had done something like that’. I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to.

I suppose the biggest appreciation that I got from being away was to take every moment as an experience, good or bad. Every experience is a story to tell from that toilet in India, to surfing with dolphins. Everything works out in the end and every idea is an opportunity.

It was so nice to meet all the people that I did. It’ll be interesting now that I am home to see how many of those people I keep in contact with. I hope to see some again, but I guess distance and what seems to be more relevant nowadays, time, might have the biggest influence on that idea.

I still can’t say thank you enough to everyone who gave me a bed while I was away or helped me in some way. The places can be great but it’s the people who make the places. They give you the stories to tell against the background of the place.

To Christy I would like to say thank you for putting up with my sleep talking for 5 months but also for being a legend and the best person to travel with. To Jazz I would like to say thank you for keeping that video from India ‘in the vault’, so far, but also for probably one of the best (but quiet if Becky ever asks) nights out of my life pre-full moon party. To Becky I would like to say thank you for bringing me the tissue and for always smiling. To Heps, thank you for that one month you were with me in New Zealand and Fiji for increasing my budget by 100%, it was worth it.  To my family, thank you for meeting me in California. Easily one of the best family holidays we have had. Thank you for always supporting me in everything that I do. And one more thank you for Ledgecrest Drive occupants for being so nice to me.

I guess to some it up; I had the best time. I am fortunate in life to have had the chance to do a trip like I did. There are many people who would never be able to and I am hugely grateful to all the people in my life who have helped me to make this trip possible.

I will always look back on those 229 days of my life with a smile.

I’ve put some of my favourite photos below.
